Lock Data

Cantax FormMaster allows you to lock data in a client file to protect it from mistakes or involuntary changes.

To lock data, proceed as follows:

  1. Open the client file that you want to lock.
  2. On the File menu, click Properties.
  3. Select the Lock data check box.
  4. Click OK.

Notes:

  • Once data has been locked, new information cannot be entered but the client file can still be opened, printed or transmitted.
  • A client file containing locked data cannot be recalculated from the Forms view.
  • You can password-protect a client file even if data is locked.

In order to protect data in a client file whose returns arecompleted (i.e., the return status is "Completed") against any error or involuntary changes, you can, by default, enable data locking .

To lock data for completed returns, proceed as follows:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and Settings.
  2. Under Options, click Tax Returns.
  3. In the Options area, select the Lock data when status is "Completed" check box.
  4. Click OK.
Note: If you unlock data from a client file for which data was locked with this option, Cantax FormMaster will not lock data from this client file again.
